Yes we need it, Yes we don’t need it.
𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 - 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬, 𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐭𝐡.
There are equally as many benefits as there are dis-advantages. But what I want to address is the anxiety around it and the things not to take notice of in order to avoid and eliminate the anxiety associated with it. I was talking to a friend lately who is just totally caught up on the numbers, the how’s, the why’s and the what if’s. Whilst I post a lot of what I do on it, I actually don’t spend too much time on it myself, but I am more mindful of my approach towards it and tend to take no notice once I press the publish button.
We are supposed to be more connected, but at times it’s like we are more disconnected. We are connecting with the outside (𝘃𝗶𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹) world and forgetting what’s inside our own doors, (in our own 𝙨𝙤𝙘𝙞𝙖𝙡 presence) - our friends, our family, our lives. We have lost our connection to ourselves, when you find yourself looking at someone talking about something you actually have no interest in but yet you still watch - then this is where you have crossed a line, look at what you could be doing with that time with yourself.
As a business, yes you need it, it is essential in this day and age, it’s free advertising, is a brilliant educational tool and provides you with a brilliant platform to showcase what you do, advertise your classes/products/services. You have to set a boundary as well though, you are too accessible on your mobile - don’t spend 9-12 hours at work and come home spending another few hours answering dms, making videos or writing posts.
Set a limit, 𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙠 𝙝𝙤𝙪𝙧𝙨 𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙠 𝙝𝙤𝙪𝙧𝙨, 𝙝𝙤𝙢𝙚 𝙩𝙞𝙢𝙚 𝙞𝙨 𝙝𝙤𝙢𝙚 𝙩𝙞𝙢𝙚.
𝗦𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗠𝗘 𝗠𝗘 𝗠𝗘 𝗱𝗶𝗮 - don’t look for or rely on recognition from social media posts to value your worth or presence. Do not compare the way you are, or what you are doing to what you are seeing on people’s posts or stories. This is only what they are letting you see, not what or who they are behind the scenes.
𝗕𝗲 𝗮 𝘄𝗼𝗹𝗳 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗮 𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗲𝗽 - Know who you follow and why, don’t just follow someone just because everyone else does. I was following a local who preaches all this be kind, know yourself, blah blah blah and yet this person knows me and would walk past me on the street. I was like why am I even following this person or engaging with their content when it’s false and they won’t even say hi to me on the street, I was just a number to 𝙗𝙪𝙡𝙠 𝙪𝙥 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙞𝙧 𝙀𝙂𝙊.
𝗗𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗿𝘆 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗻𝘂𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘀 - people get too carried away on the numbers, who needs to see your post will see it. If I write something and it helps one person, that’s enough for me, if it helps 10 people, that’s enough for me, if it helps no one but myself, that’s enough for me.
𝗗𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗿𝘆 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝘀, who needs you will find you. You will get all the emails to buy followers, but why buy a false following that won’t engage with what you do. Lot of them are false accounts or bots. Where does your credibility stand when you can have thousands of followers but don’t have the likes on a post to match.
𝗗𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗿𝘆 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝘂𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲𝘀 - there are numerous reasons for this
𝙿𝚛𝚒𝚟𝚊𝚌𝚢 - People mightn’t want others knowing what they are into.
𝙹𝚎𝚊𝚕𝚘𝚞𝚜𝚢 -There is the element of jealousy where they won’t press that like button because they are jealous of you.
𝙲𝚘𝚖𝚙𝚎𝚝𝚒𝚝𝚒𝚘𝚗 - there is the element of competition for businesses where people in the same area of expertise won’t like incase it takes away from them.
𝙽𝚘 𝚒𝚗𝚝𝚎𝚛𝚎𝚜𝚝 - People just aren’t into what you are.
𝙿𝚢𝚛𝚊𝚖𝚒𝚍 𝚂𝚌𝚑𝚎𝚖𝚎𝚜， 𝙲𝚘𝚖𝚖𝚞𝚗𝚒𝚝𝚒𝚎𝚜 𝚊𝚗𝚍 𝙽𝚎𝚝𝚠𝚘𝚛𝚔𝚒𝚗𝚐 - part of the parcel of being part of groups where they all support each other but not anyone else.
𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗼𝘄𝘀 - back to the numbers, some posts will get lots of likes, others mightn’t even get one. Don’t worry about it -𝙔𝙤𝙪 𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙣𝙪𝙢𝙗𝙚𝙧𝙨.
𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗳𝗮𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘀 - a lot of it is not real, people spend hours making videos and re-editing them, it’s a job, white washing what they do, to sell their product, sell themselves and sell their l̶i̶e̶s̶ lives.
𝗗𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝗯𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗲 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘀𝗲𝗲.
𝘼𝙣𝙜𝙡𝙚𝙨, 𝙇𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙋𝙤𝙨𝙚𝙨 mean everything, you catch someone at the wrong or right angle and you can read what you are seeing completely different to they way it actually is.
𝗧𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗮 𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗵 𝗼𝗳 𝘀𝗮𝗹𝘁 - a lot of people will say and post stuff that isn’t true, it’s white washed to make them feel better and look good, not to make you feel better, it’s to make you think you need to be or do different to what you do, or that you need what they have. You will know the ones that are real.
𝗗𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 - why do you feel that you have to post everything. Let go of the habit or the feeling of needing to post to engage to make you feel good. Only post when you have something that you feel really needs to be posted, not just to showcase a picture of what you are going to eat.
𝗞𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗯𝗮𝘀𝗲 and don’t worry about what isn’t - know where is it that you need to advertise to, if you are a local business, do not worry if people at the other side of the world don’t like your post or if people that your business isn’t aimed towards don’t engage with you.
